Troika – an improvement on Sykes-Fairbairn?

TORIS (Threat Oriented Rapid Incapacitation System) recently released a new knife they say “Shaves close enough for government work.” Designed by Maynard Ancheta with feedback from Torin Hill and manufactured by Jeff Crowner, it is a point-focused, edge secondary blade designed for ‘rapid-penetration/rapid release'. It is American made and assembled by veterans.

Says Toris, “A lot of information went into the design of the blade—the material knowledge, knife geometry and experience of Jeff Crowner. The knife fighting expertise and design skill of Mandala Meynard Ancheta. The wounding and injury information from Torin Hill, Director of Training for TORIS. A lot of historical blade designs went into the hopper along with some trauma medicine, too. Out came the best knife many have ever handled.”

Currently available in graphite, OD, coyote and black (or red, politician red, blueblack and politician blueblack for the trainer), the TROIKA has hand filed G10 scales and a handle designed for “style-agnostic” use (point up/down, blade foreward/reversed, etc.). The TROIKA comes with a matching aluminum trainer (because this isn't a safe queen, nor is it a pry-bar), a custom-kydex sheath for both, and a $110 TORIS Workshop Voucher!

Specs are as follows:

SPECIFICATIONS
  • Overall Length: 10″
  • Cutting Edge: 5”
  • Blade Material: CPM3V
  • Handle Scales: G10
  • Blade Length: 5.25″
  • Blade Thickness: 5.56mm
  • Blade Finish: Satin
  • Weight: 500 grams

The Toris TROIKA was an effort to improve on the redoubtable Sykes-Fairbairn knife of old – what do you think?
