Several years ago we stumbled upon a local manufacturer based out of Reno, Nevada who was building an interesting accessory in an effort to provide greater accuracy for the handgun shooter: USA 1 Shot.
Original offerings were on the pricier side and reflected the high costs of a start-up business with regard to polymers, mold-making and research and development.
In the years since, the designs have become lighter, more streamlined and less expensive. Variants over the years allowed for installation of a tablet to use in conjunction with the device and a camera to aid shooters and moving from a completely fixed style to one which utilized a buffer tube and AR carbine-type butt stock. We have seen the design evolve as it made its paces through the Modular Handgun System trials as an accessory and additional input from beta testers in the military and law enforcement spheres.
Aside from the single slot Picatinny rail integrated within the body of the new design, we noticed a variety of pistol braces used in the construction instead of the AR carbine butt stocks and buffer tubes that were used previously. In addition to the more compact size, the brace may add an extra layer of legal protection for non-military use. Although ATF has not issued a ruling on the legality of the dynamic pistol rest, instead saying that “the agency does not regulate accessories” and since it never attaches to the handgun outside of grip pressure, the accessory cannot be considered a firearm part. It does not hurt to be cautious, but personally, we preferred the feel of the earlier versions.
We plan a more in depth review to see the capabilities of the latest iteration ourselves in the coming weeks. An employee of the company who is a professional shooter recently used the new brace in conjunction with a more powerful optic and a Glock 19 handgun to ring a steel plate at an extremely long distance. A feat we would like to test for ourselves in the near future.
MSRP on these new versions hovers around $179.99. That is quite a bit cheaper than the original offering and we must admit, this version offers some updates needed for the long distance pistol shooter.
These pair up well with various M&P, Glock and SIG 320 designs.
