Everyman Tactical – Workaday Gear In Use

The online definition of Everyman, at least according to dictionary.com, is “an ordinary person; the typical or average person.” We often post news, reviews and op-eds from contributors with very specific gun-centric or tactical backgrounds; former and current military personnel, contractors and LEOs, competitive shooters and similar SMEs. While this is valuable and offers the reader a perspective he or she will likely never have, it can at times be seemingly unrealistic and occasionally disingenuous. This is in no small part because the nature of those SMEs jobs, and their very contributor status to the magazine, give them access to equipment and firearms from a wide array of manufacturers. It's great to see what equipment a former CAG operator or national champion 3-gunner uses, but it might be nice to see how that same gear holds up to a year of riding the Metro or building houses.

This series will attempt to address that. We'll be posting imagery from a number of different “everyman” reviewers (where possible) posting specific comments regarding initial impression and then a full review to follow.

You'll have to forgive the quality of some of the imagery, like the shots of the LOWA Z-6S boots being worn by the young man helping build a grain elevator above. Many of these guys have more enthusiasm than skill with a camera.

Anyway, for instance, about a watch from Smith & Bradley:

I love the watch. It looks great and gets a lot of compliments. The guys I work with think I'm nuts to wear it every day on the job, they're afraid I'm going to ruin it, but so far it's held up fine. My only complaint is that I sometimes bump it over from one time zone to the next with my hands when I bend my wrist back, but I think it's because my hands are big. No one else seems to have the same complaint.

(He's wearing a Smith & Bradley Ambush.)

Here's another.

This Vertx Backpack (I do not remember the name) for starters has great design and build. Tons of pockets for storage, both for immediate access and discrete concealment. I used the pack several times (about 4 or 5) before I found this excellently hidden pocket I could hide my K-bar knife in. It feels great to walk around with on your back all day. I've taken it for a few 1-2 mile walks with my dog. I've also used it for travel to Jamaica recently, and it was great for use as a carry-on bag. This bag is multifaceted and I can not wait to see what more I can use it for; i.e. hiking, boating, camping, etc. Top of my arsenal for packing and carrying my everyday items for work by the way.

(He's carrying a Vertx EDC Gamut.)

There will be more workaday gear in use to follow.
