Zev’s New Firearm Breaks Cover a Day Early

Zev Technologies is breaking new ground in 2019, releasing its own pistol. The reveal was teased by Ballistic Magazine last week in a blog post that promised details on January 1st. Well, someone shared with us tonight what appears to be a couple of pages from the magazine's print coverage of Zev's forthcoming OZ9 pistol.

Based solely on the two photos we were given, which we've shared, Ballistic reports, “The heart of the OZ9 is a removable receiver that holds the fire control group…” And, that action appears to be a modular version of Glock's Safe Action system that hearkens back to Sig Sauer's P250/P320 discreet fire control unit design. The locking block, trigger bar, connectors, and trigger housing are all held in a serialized midlayer receiver that seemingly allows the end user to swap the guts of the firearm into a line of grip modules Zev plans to release, or perhaps license.

Either way, the nature of unserialized grips means we can look forward to, at least, a few sizes of over-the-counter grips. But if we know Zev, they won't stop there. Looking at the photo Ballistic used, we'll wager they're showing the pistol in it's most tricked out configuration (because that's what we'd do) with a big ol' competition magwell, an optic ready slide, custom sights, lightening cuts, a dimpled (or what looks like maybe a ported?) barrel, and so many cocking serrations that Zev must be changing milling bits after each shift change. Seeing what they've done with the premier version, we're guessing there's a place for a shorter grip modules for a more concealable package.

Zev does lots of great things, but they don't do cheap. We've heard the OZ9 will retail for more than a rifle. Our source tells us the pistol with retail for $1679.

Upon hearing initial rumors detailing the pistols modular nature last week, we reached out to Zev's Dave Roberts and he declined the opportunity to comment.
