Announcing the BNTI ARMS Battle Rifle

We recently received an announcement describing the newly released BNTI Arms Battle Rifle. Chambered in .308, the new long gun is being built specifically for export to Nigerian and other African military, law enforcement and security forces units. BNTI is partnered with Armalite Inc. and several other companies and maintains a headquarters in Florida, but they are apparently a jointly US-Nigerian owned company based in Abuja. BNTI builds a number of weapon platforms in addition to their battle rifle; among semi-auto and select-fire rifles ranging from 9mm to 7.62 x 39mm.

Nigeria's relationship with the United States has grown much closer in the last two years, after a change in regime tentatively promised an end to human rights violations. Since the election of President Muhammadu Buhari the United States has been providing assistance to Nigeria in several ways via the U.S.-Nigeria Binational Commission. Significant among those is security, as Nigerian security forces become more involved in operations against the extremist group Boko Haram (previously AFRICOM preferred to work with the militaries of neighboring Chad, Cameroon, and Niger).

The development of BNTI weapons for export, and the intention to eventually begin manufacturing in African facilities, is likely a part of the goal to develop local infrastructure and manufacturing. In fact, not too long ago Nigerian Senate President Bukola Saraki initiated a program called the “Made in Nigeria” challenge.

Anyway, here's what we know about it.
