People ‘Taxpayer’ vs. ‘Extremist’ Recoil Staff July 10, 2014 0 COMMENT Extremist is a word that gets tossed around a lot these days. You hear it on the left, you hear it on the right, you hear it with appalling frequency as applied to firearms ownership, religion and other traditionally “conservative” matters. This picture began making the rounds this morning. So, this sign – another example of the same sort of misinformed, exaggerated hyperbole that so often seizes social media channels? Or an astute and piquant observation on current attitudes toward individual rights and the proliferation of the so-called ‘entitlement society’? Yes, this is a little bit of a departure from our typical content but it will be interesting to see what sort of discussion it generates (and what sort of tin-hattery). We’ll leave you with a few peripherally related words from Ichabod Crane. “[W]hat’s insane is a 10 percent levy on baked goods. You do realize the Revolutionary War began on less than 2 percent? How is the public not flocking to the streets in outrage? We must do something.” Hat tip to Young Conservatives.
