Writer, author and combat veteran Chris Hernandez recently interviewed some of the principals behind the documentary The Hornets Nest. The Hornet's Nest is the work of two embedded journalists chronicle the experiences of the “No Slack” battalion in Afghanistan as No Slack [2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault)] took part in Operation Strong Eagle III. Among those Hernandez talked to were one of the directors and Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Chris Fields, who is in the documentary with his soldiers.

“If I have a criticism, it’s that the movie was too short. I wanted to see more of the final battle. I wanted to know more about the casualties and survivors. I wanted to know more about Captain Kevin Mott, who was shot in the head, fell 400 feet down a mountain and came back six months later to lead troops in Operation Strong Eagle III. I wanted to know why a warrior who bravely endured days of intense combat fled in panic when another soldier threw a chicken at him. I really wanted to hear more about the young soldier who danced as he searched Afghans and their truck at a checkpoint. I want to hear their stories. I wanted to know more about their war.” Chris Hernandez
