Learn More SilencerCo decided to commemorate their ten-year anniversary with the release of a new .22 silencer, the Switchback. At first glance it looks like just another now-common modular .22 suppressor, but there are some twists here. There are four configurations: Large, Medium, Small, and Rifle Optimized. What makes the Rifle Optimized configuration so special is that it reportedly brings the blast down to a mere 108 decibels. SilencerCo accomplished this is a very counter-intuitive way: by reversing the baffles in the second module. See the photo below. As to how and why this works? Here's what they tell us: “Gas flow can be sped up or slowed down by tapering a bore wider or tighter,” said Jake Turnblom, SilencerCo engineer. “Cones act as a nozzle (to speed up) or a diffuser (to slow down) gases inpropulsion. The effect a cone has completely flips when transitioning to or from supersonic or subsonic velocities. Using cones (by flipping them) as supersonic diffusers is what led to the discovery of improved suppression on rifles.” The weight of the SilencerCo Switchback is as low as 3.2-ounces in the Short configuration and 6.5-oz in the Long or Rifle Optimized configuration. We're told the Switchback is hearing safe in the tiny short configuration when used with a rifle.
