A Look at McMillan’s New A-10 Stock

Good Things Do Come in Small Packages

When you think of quality rifle stocks, there’s no doubt that McMillan is a top contender. For many years, the McMillan name has been synonymous with the best stocks available to shooters across all disciplines. Like to hunt? They have a stock for that. Like to F-class it up? They have a stock for that. Is precision rifle what floats your boat? Yup, they have a stock for that, too.

This year at SHOT Show, McMillan introduced the newest addition to their line of tactical stocks, the A-10, which was designed by McMillan’s vice president of operations, Britainy McMillan, in collaboration with Regina Milkovich. Regina is a top ranked precision rifle competitor and the winningest female precision rifle shooter in both the Precision Rifle Series and National Rifle League. Including competitors in product development is pivotal when it comes to innovating and creating products that will truly benefit shooters, and the A-10 is proof of that. In the precision rifle world, shooters seem to be hardcore stock lovers or hard-core chassis lovers. As a stock lover who never had the chance to get behind a McMillan stock, I was pretty excited to try this stock out. The fact that it was basically made for someone like me was definitely the cherry on top.

The Inspiration

When the design process for the A-10 began, the goal was clear — create a factory rifle stock that accommodates the needs of smaller statured shooters. Women and youth shooters are showing up at precision rifle matches in record numbers; however, Britainy and Regina felt something was seriously lacking when it came to gear designed for these shooters. When asked about her inspiration for designing the A-10, Britainy said, “You know, I just started thinking there’s got to be a better system out there that allows women, youth, or people of smaller stature to get behind their gun consistently and comfortably every time like bigger people.” Faced with always having to make extra modifications to their own stocks in order to properly and comfortably grip the rifle, pull the trigger, or even just shoot and carry the rifle, these ladies came up with a design concept that addressed all of these issues with no extra customization needed. After speaking with many other competitors having the same issues, they decided to take action. McMillan saw a need and filled it.

The A-10 stock features a unique shape that facilitates an easier, more consistent trigger pull for shooters with smaller hands.

“I’ve been changing my stocks since I started shooting to make them fit me,” said Regina, “because none of them ever fit me right, but I didn’t have the background experience to correctly explain what I was trying to do or the problem I was trying to fix. I could only identify the problem. Britainy noticed that ladies and youth shooters had a hard time getting correctly behind their gun at Guardian matches, and then she started looking at the stocks that I was modifying. How do I order them? How do I change them? She asked if I could build a stock, what would I do different? What would I change about them to make them fit me better? And that is what led to the initial design changes for the A-10.”

The Design

The A-10 introduces several new features and also embarks on new territory as a stock purpose-built for short or small-framed folks. One of the most notable features on the A-10 is its new and improved grip design.
