THE BISCUIT IS EQUALLY AT HOME ON SBRS AND BOLT GUNS Photos by Kenda Lenseigne If someone is looking for their first can, we almost always steer them toward a .30 cal for maximum versatility. It seems the engineers at Abel are on the same page, as for the moment, that’s all they offer — which is a good thing. We got to spend some quality time with their Biscuit and Biscuit S models and can confirm they’re as good as anything out there, offering a lot of bang for the buck. Constructed of 17-4 precipitation-hardened stainless steel and featuring some of the nicest welds we’ve seen on any suppressor, they’re rated for use on 5.56 rifles down to 10.3 inches in barrel length and are claimed to withstand full-auto fire on shorties. At the other end of the spectrum, they’ll handle 300PRC from a 22-inch bolt gun, and we’d be surprised if 300 Norma wasn’t on the cards also. Both models are built around the industry-standard 1.375×24 HUB mount, meaning many other suppressor companies’ adapters will bolt right up. So, if you’re already invested in say, ASR or KeyMo brakes and flash hiders, they’ll fit your guns without much hassle. The Biscuit measures 1.8 inches in diameter instead of the usual 1.5, which means it achieves the same internal volume as skinnier cans, but in a shorter overall length. You might think that being a little chunkier, it might be more noticeable when viewed through a scope, and we’re glad to report that nope, the greater diameter is offset by the shorter length and it’s no more obtrusive in your field of vision. The Biscuit S pairs perfectly with the Hellion; it doesn’t add too much length while also improving the balance. Of the two, our preference is for the Biscuit S. Yes, it’s louder. No way around that. But when paired with a firearm with a shorter OAL, such as the Springfield Hellion shown here, it really shines. In fact, the Biscuit S might just be the ideal bullpup can, as it keeps length to a minimum, adds just enough weight to the muzzle to offset the usual bullpup butt-heavy feel and, due to its low back-pressure design, allows the gun to operate on the normal gas setting.
