Adaptive Tactical’s New Shotgun Light Forend

Adaptive Tactical debuted its new Ex-Performance Tactical Light Forend for Remington and Mossberg shotguns at TriggrCon 2018.

The system includes a composite replacement forend, tactical light, rail cover, and batteries. The light outputs 300 lumens, with a 3-hour run time. The power button is on the bottom of the light housing and provides three illumination settings — momentary on (single press), constant on (double click), and strobe (triple click). The button was tactile and responsive, and accessible by lefties and righties. Its location didn't feel entirely intuitive at first, but we'd need to spend more time running the system to determine how well it works for us. The housing is polycarbonate, with an aluminum bezel.

With the twist of a locking knob, the light can be quickly attached or removed from a small 2-inch rail at the front of the forend. If you don't wish to utilize the light at all, you can install a cover over the rail. You can also use the rail to attach other accessories.

The new forend itself replaces your shotgun's existing forend. It's longer than the original forend, extending forward and shrouding the shotgun's magazine cap. This allows the integrated weapon light to be attached further forward and provides additional real estate on the forend for your support hand. On the other hand, it makes it trickier to add a front sling point to the shotgun, if you so desire. You won't be able to use sling loops that are secured behind the magazine cap, due to the extended forend. We figure the primary solution will be to attach a barrel/magazine tube clamp that accommodates a sling attachment point.

Adaptive Tactical's MSRP is $129, making it a very affordable integrated light forend compared to the alternatives. It's expected to be available in November 2018.

If you're in the Seattle area, TriggrCon is open to the public this weekend, 28-29 July 2018. It's free, with a premium package also available. Check out the TriggrCon site for more information.
