Atibal Releases sub-$500 1-6x FFP Optic

As low-power variable optics (LPVO) become more popular–we're going to see more options. In recent years we've seen them span the whole scale in both price and feature sets. Earlier this year we reviewed their beer-money-budget 1-8x Atibal XP8. Freshly announced from Atibal is the XP6 Mirage, a front focal plane (FFP) variable optic under $500. And not just a little under $500, like $499.99, but significantly less than $500–to as low as $415.

With a second focal plane (SFP) optic, the reticle remains static regardless of the scope magnification level. When you increase the magnification of FFP optic, the reticle also increases in size. There's debate about the usefulness of this feature in some crowds, but FFP optics are a bit more complicated to engineer and manufacture than their SFP brethren. Invariably this means a higher price point. While we haven't had hands-on with this one yet, you can anticipate it in the near future.

Here's what they have to say about it:

With the knock out success of Atibal’s XP8 launched last year, Atibal decided to bring an affordable front focal plane option to market. The XP6 Mirage 1-6×24 features a Front Focal Plane, integrated rapid view lever, and a custom laser etched reticle.

During development, Atibal sought the expertise of numerous 3-gun competition shooters and serious hunters to ensure the reticle fit the needs of both worlds. The XP6 Mirage is incredibly versatile and can be used on a wide variety of weapons systems, ranging from an AR to a bolt action rifle. The reticle allows for fast target acquisition at 1x and for pinpoint accuracy at long distances at 6x with the FFP. The Rapid View Lever allows for lightning fast magnification changes, making the XP6 Mirage 1-6×24 the perfect optic for short to medium range target acquisition.
