AfterSHOT: Ballistic Radio starts a Training Division, Teams up with DD

Ballistic Radio, one of the most popular American gun podcasts, is entering its fourth year of production. They recently announced that they're starting a new training division–and that Daniel Defense will be sponsoring it. I'm told that the training will be specifically designed for practical, defensive use as opposed to ‘entertrainment'. They further assure that all curriculum will be tested and vetted by other professionals in the industry.

John Johnston of Ballistic Radio had this to say about it:

“I'm not taking anything away from the guy who put plates on and kick in doors during classes–I do that too. But it's not going to help me much in a fight in the Walmart parking lot.”

Heading up the new Ballistic Radio training division is Melody Lauer. Melody has been involved in the firearms community for more than a decade, has a boatload of experience regarding adult education (for both firearms and otherwise), and was recently in the news regarding her Baby-Wearing-While-Carrying classes.

The pairing with Daniel Defense on the surface may initially seem strange to some, but Daniel Defense has always nicely balanced their advertising efforts between military and civilian markets. The crew over at Ballistic Radio also said to look forward to some new considerations for practical civilian defensive use of rifles that they'll be putting out (and I imagine the new Daniel Defense “pistol” that comes equipped with a Law Tactical folder may come into play with that one).

The first open enrollment Ballistic Radio training class is anticipated to take place at the end of the second quarter of this year.

What is the NSSF SHOT Show?

The NSSF SHOT Show (Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade Show) and Conference is an annual event held by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. Typically attended by thousands of people from all 50 states and over a hundred countries, it is (quite rightfully) described as the “…world's premier exposition of combined firearms, ammunition, law enforcement, cutlery, outdoor apparel, optics, and related products and services.

Imagine the Worlds' Fair, but packed with everything from mini-guns and every breed of body armor, bows and boots; from eye pro and ear pro to optics and ordnance, socks to swords…you get the idea. If you'd like to see a sampling of the companies who will be showing at this year's SHOT, there's a live map right here, though it doesn't reflect the organizations set up elsewhere, in hotel suites, etc
