People Bears, brawling and black powder: Hardy and Dicaprio in The Revenant Recoil Staff August 8, 2015 Based on Michael Punke’s novel about the real Philadelphia born adventurer and frontiersman Hugh Glass, The Revenant looks to be an action packed tale of revenge. Events take place in the early years of the 19th century; Hugh Glass (Dicaprio) goes seeking vengeance on the men who robbed and abandoned him after he was mauled by a bear. Tom Hardy plays John Fitzgerald (the confidante whose betrayal apparently stings worst) and Will Poulter plays none other than Jim Bridger. The film was directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu (21 Grams, Babel, Birdman, et al) and is scheduled for a limited release Christmas day this year. This isn’t the first movie based on the legend of Hugh Glass. In 1971 Richard Harris played the trapper in the movie Man in the Wilderness. The movie website is right here. It’s on Facebook here.
