SHOT Show 2018 Because Racegun: The SAR K-12 Sport Tamara Keel January 26, 2018 Join the Conversation At RECOIL, we review every product fairly and without bias. Learn More No longer handled by a third-party importer, pistols from Turkish manufacturer Sarsilmaz are imported, sold, and supported by SAR USA. This bodes for more responsive customer service should parts or warranty work be needed. While most all of the attention SAR has received at SHOT Show 2018 has been directed at the new SAR9 service pistol, we couldn’t help but notice another gun on the table at range day. Appearing to be a feature-for-feature near-clone of the Tanfoglio Witness Elite Limited, the hefty steel competition piece was labeled “K-12 Sport”. The sample on the line at Industry Range Day shot like guns of this ilk tend to do: Super flat, thanks to the massive full-length steel dust cover. The trigger was good, and the controls were positive. We made a point of circling by the SAR booth on the floor of the show to get more photos. Like the racegun offerings from Tanfo and CZ on which it’s quite clearly based, the K-12 Sport features extended ambi safety levers and click-adjustable target sights. The front strap and back strap or the grip are checkered and the gun has low-profile aluminum grips and a magwell big enough it has its own ZIP Code. There’s a skeletonized hammer, an overtravel stop in the back of the trigger, and pretty much every other feature you’d expect except for a cool-guy squared off trigger guard. Obligatory gas pedal safeties. The whole ensemble caught our eye enough that we enquired after the pricing. When they replied that MSRP was $749, we asked them to double check they were looking up the right gun. They were, and the MSRP is indeed under eight hundred, which likely translates to a street price under seven bills. That’s half the MSRP of the directly equivalent EAA product. You can buy a lot of feed ramp polishing and reloading supplies for seven hundred dollars. There’s only one fly in the ointment, and that’s that the SAR K-12 Sport is only available in 9mm, which doesn’t matter in the rest of the world but here in the US of USPSA, it means that this single-action-only 9mm is a Limited Minor gun. Without either a DA trigger to shoot Production or a .40-cal version for Major scoring, the K-12 Sport is close, but no cigSAR.
