Competitive Shooting Become More Stable With Area 419’s New RailChanger X Rob Curtis August 12, 2019 Join the Conversation You can't swing a Kestrel without hitting someone with four different kinds of shooting bags at a precision rifle match these days. Nevertheless, a new front has broken out in the ever-escalating gear war that is fueled by competitive precision rifle shooting with the release of Area 419's new RailChanger X. The RailChanger X is a larger version of the original RailChanger, combining the stability of a larger plate-to-bag interface with the convenience of a new quick-release, camming bag attachment system. When used with a compatible shooting bag, installing or removing a bag from the plate takes a few seconds using the side-mounted cam lever. The best way to understand the way it works is to watch the company's intro video shared below. The bag is made to work with specially modified Armageddon Gear shooting bags –it's shown with an AG GameChanger. The bags have laser-cut, high-tenacity fabric sewn in areas to accept the plate in a way that's reminiscent of how PALS/MOLLE accessories attach to body armor carriers. The plate is designed to attach to an Arca-style rail using Area 419's ARCALOCK clamp and it features several mounting points for upcoming Area 419 accessories. It also has a short section of Arca rail on the underside to mount it to another Arca-compatible accessory, such as a tripod head. Rail-mounted bags began to catch on about a year or two ago when Cole-Tac came out with its Backbone bag system that secures a conformable shooting bag to a rifle's forend. Products like this add stability, convenience, and reduce the time needed to reset and adjust a shooting bag when changing shooting positions during a competition stage. Area 419's original RailChanger was a different take on the idea, as are Grey Ops CNC's larger multipurpose Arca plates. The RailChanger XL is available from Area 419 for $100, or bundled with an ARCALOCK clamp for $170. The shooting bag is not included. From Area 419: Area 419, a leading manufacturer of precision rifles and components, announces the RailChanger X – an improved version of their popular RailChanger rail. The ARCA-mounted RailChanger X (RCX) features a traveling bag-hook and locking cam-lever that will allow shooters to use larger format bags like the GameChanger, and includes design provisions for accessories that could include ergonomic enhancements or data cards. “When we introduced the RailChanger in the summer of 2018 we knew it would be a popular system, but the adoption of the system by competitors has been more widespread than we could have ever expected.” says Jon Addis, Founder and Owner of Area 419. He continues, “we knew that as this system evolved it needed to give shooters more options and more control over their shooting system, and we think we’ve built more function and more competitive advantage into this system than anything on the market.” With the launch of the RailChanger at the Precision Rifle Expo in 2018, Area 419 pioneered the concept of detachable bag-support systems in the practical precision market. While the segment has grown, the RailChanger X will continue to position Area 419 as the leader and innovator in the Precision Rifle Competition Accessories. The patent-pending RailChanger X will immediately be available for pre-order, with a prospective ship date of September 1, 2019. The RCX is reverse-compatible with existing RailChanger and GripChanger bags, and newly designed bags are currently in development by Armageddon Gear and Cole-Tac. These updated bag designs are expected to be available at the same time as initial RailChanger X shipments. Retail price for the RCX will be $170 including an ARCALOCK clamp or $100 without.
