Bushnell Match Pro 6-24×50 FFP Scope: Surprisingly Impressive

DESIGNED FOR COMPETITION, BUT WHAT ELSE CAN IT DO?

Bushnell might be the brand you think of when you think of Walmart deer scopes, but they offer more than that. In fact, these days, their higher-tier optics are pretty excellent. At the top end, the Elite Tactical XRS3 is flat-out amazing. But there’s a lot of dollars between Walmart deer scopes and the winner of King of Two Mile.

The Bushnell Match Pro comes in at $450-500 and is sold exclusively through Bushnell’s website.

After several months of use, multiple competitions, and thousands of rounds fired, I’ve put a lot of time behind this scope and have a few things to say about it. 

Spoiler alert: This scope is pretty baller – for the price.

I’ve been wanting to give the Match Pro a shot for a long time now, and Bushnell was nice enough to help out by sending one out.

My main goal and plan for it was to run it at NRL22 matches. Everything about the Match Pro is built for match-style shooting, and since Bushnell is a title sponsor of NRL22 and I love shooting NRL22, it felt like the right thing to do.

While I could have run the Match Pro on a Tikka T1x for a base class setup, I spent a ton of money on my Zermatt Arms RimX, and I just love shooting it too much. So I threw the $450 Match Pro on my overly expensive RimX .22 LR in a JAE-700 G4 chassis and took off to the match.

The results were I shot a personal high score. Like, ever. 

I can’t honestly say that the Match Pro was responsible for that, but it’s impressive that it didn’t hold me back and gave me (almost) all of the features that I needed, and it is such a budget-friendly scope.

The reticle is great for holdovers in elevation and wind, it’s busy enough to give you options for aiming points but not so busy that it gets in the way. I tend to hold over almost all of my shots, so a good reticle is key for me.

The one stage that I did dial the Match Pro was perfect for. Turret is clicky but not too clicky, locking the turret was nice to know it wouldn’t move during repositioning, and the markings are easy to read. The Match Pro lacks a zero stop, but some white nail polish for a witness mark can mitigate this a lot.

While most of my other scopes require tools to reset a zero on the turrets, the Match Pro doesn’t. Just untwist the cap, set it to zero, and tighten the cap back down. Simple, fast, and works 100%. This made getting a solid zero right before the match super easy and left me time to walk the line and talk to other shooters.

HOW ABOUT CENTERFIRE?

From a SIG Sauer Cross in 6.5 Creedmoor to my Terminus Zeus in 6.5 Creedmoor and .223 Remington, the Match Pro has been great.

Through a couple of months worth of training sessions and range days, I’ve done just about everything I can think of to do with the Match Pro and my centerfire rifles from 50 yards to 950 yards. No issues, no problems, no complaints.

And again, that easy-to-set zero came in handy again and again. While swapping a scope from rifle to rifle is never ideal, the Match Pro at least makes it pretty easy. 

While entirely usable for 1,000-yard shooting, the Match Pro does start to show its limitations when you reach past 600 yards or so. Hits on steel aren’t difficult, assuming the rest of your system is solid, but targets are not as clear as they would be with a higher-tier scope.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

Nearly perfect for NRL22 base class, the Match Pro can do a lot. Grab the illuminated model, and I’d say this is a solid option for hunting as well as range shooting. Rimfire or centerfire, this is a great scope.

The features are clearly geared toward match shooting (and the name is Match Pro so…), but I don’t think it is limited to competition shooting at all. With the very reasonable price Bushnell is offering, this is right in line for budget builds, starter rifles, or getting your feet wet in long range shooting.

A zero stop is one feature that I would have liked to see, but it isn’t the end of the world. Other than that, this does what I want. While almost everything about the Match Pro punches above its price point, it’s important to remember that this is a $500ish scope. The glass is great for the price, but it’s still a budget-minded scope.

If you’re building a rifle on the less-expensive side, just getting started, or have a hard limit like keeping a rifle in base class, the Match Pro is an outstanding option. I would even go so far as to say that this is probably the best scope for the money on the market right now.

LOOSE ROUNDS

Great gear is often very expensive, and finding options that are “just as good” simply doesn’t exist, normally. But every once in a while, there comes a budget-minded product that actually delivers.

The Match Pro is one of those rare sightings. If you have an unlimited budget, get something super fancy. But if your scope budget is under $500 or so, I think the Match Pro might be the best option you can get.

I dig it and will keep it in the rotation of optics I use regularly.
