People Check out SN Metalworks David Reeder June 19, 2015 I don't know a whole lot about SN Metalwork, other than it s comes to you courtesy of Scott Namken's muse. I stumbled across it in my feed because one of my friends tagged Namken, the artist, in a post. What I saw was definitely worth sharing, so here you go. Headquartered in Colorado, SN Metalworks produces a variety of custom works; perhaps the most recognizable are the buckles — Mokume buckles, Mokuti buckles, Timascus and Zircti buckles, belt and watch buckles…it's all gorgeous. Take a look at these: Here you see 2 Damascus buckles, 1 distressed zirconium buckle and 3 ‘superconductor' buckles alongside Timascus, Mokuti and superconductor beads. This is a 24mm Sakmar Mokume watch buckle alongside a Mokuti ring. This is a 1.5 in. Rob Thomas Stainless Typhoon Damascus belt buckle with a linear Mokuti tongue: This by no means covers the wide range of this man's incredible talent. You'll need to spend some time online to see all the different buckles, rings, cufflinks, rings, crosses and other pieces he's built. Says Namken, “I moved to Colorado for the scenery and outdoor fun that can be had here, but what I found was what I have always wanted to do. Working with metals that after 10 years of collecting custom knives by amazing artists and designers that have become friends, I found what I always desired to do, make and design objects out of materials that in themselves are already artwork. My passion in these pattern welded materials started with Stainless Damascus, then turned to towards Mokuti and ZircTi made by Chad Nichols and others. These materials are like what I make, never the same, always different. The patterns are endless in possibility and beauty. About 2 years ago, I purchased my first Damasteel buckle from a maker in Poland. This spawned the idea of making my own buckles, it just blossomed from there into other metals. I work in the before mentioned Mokuti, ZircTi, Stainless Damascus, Zirconium, Damasteel, and 6/4AV titanium and discovering more from time to time.” Check him out on Facebook and make sure to follow him on Instagram too, @SNMetalwork.
