Proving that the world could always use more pistol caliber carbines, CMMG introduced a new 9mm PCC known as the MkGs GUARD to the carbine market.
Designed for competition, home defense, or plinking at the range, the MkGs GUARD is fed from 33-round factory Glock magazines. What makes this one different from the rest of the PCC crowd is CMMG’s patent pending Radial Delayed Blowback operating system.
Originally designed by CMMG to handle .45 ACP rounds in the original GUARD, the radial delayed blowback compensates for recoil impulse without adding an excessive amount of weight to the carrier and buffer.
“Straight blowback was not the solution and so Radial Delayed Blowback was born,” CMMG said in a press release.
Though 9mm doesn’t suffer the same recoil as .45 ACP, the company says the chambering enjoys the same benefits from the Radial Delayed Blowback system.
“Now, when using the same Radial Delayed Blowback operating system to chamber 9mm, CMMG’s newest version of the GUARD boasts a lighter buffer and bolt carrier group than other 9mm PCC’s that use a straight blowback system,” CMMG explained.
The combined difference in weight of the bolt carrier group and buffer, in comparison to straight blowback, yields as much as 6.5 ounces in weight reduction. The reduction, according to CMMG, is a smoother shooting carbine that allows for easier follow-up shots.
The GUARD utilizes fully functional AR-15 controls, to include last round hold open. The system also boasts an all-new bolt catch linkage. CMMG says the linkage offers consistent and reliable operation out of the box with no fine tuning needed.
The GUARD will be available with 16 and 8 inch barrels in a variety of configurations ranging from $1,299 to $1,599.
