Guns FAB Defense Kypos Scout SL Pistol Conversion Kit Chad McBroom January 26, 2019 Join the Conversation Before making any modifications to a firearm, whether permanent or temporary, the first question one should ask is, why? What benefit is gained from making that modification, and what, if anything, is lost from doing so. In the case of handgun enclosures that convert a handgun into a shoulder-mounted carbine, there is the added benefit of a longer sight radius and three points of contact (grip, shoulder, foregrip, and cheek). This translates into better weapon control and accuracy. The Kypos Scout by Israeli company FAB Defense is one such handgun conversion kit that is compatible with Glock models 17, 19, 19X, 22, 23 25, 31, 32, and 45 GEN 3-5. The lightweight hybrid aluminum and polymer design converts an unmodified Glock pistol into a compact, shoulder-fired weapon for added handling and control. Kypos Scout SL folding Slingshot brace Converting a pistol using the Kypos Scout is quick and easy and requires no tools, disassembly, or permanent modifications to the firearm. The pistol slides into the shell and a snap locking mechanism closes behind the back of the slide and beavertail to lock the gun in place. An ambidextrous AR-style charging handle functions the slide internally. Inserting the Glock into the housing of the Kypos Scout SL The furniture on the Kypos Scout includes a full-length 1913 MIL-STD Picatinny rail along the top for mounting sights and optics, two removable side rails, and a bottom rail. The shell comes with a folding vertical foregrip, which extends to form a trigger guard when folded. A push-button folding buttstock with a high-traction rubber padding completes the unit. Because the Kypos Scout essentially converts the Glock pistol into an SBR, the pistol would have to be registered as an NFA item before it could be used with this device. However, the new Kypos Slingshot negates that necessity. Kypos Scout SL Folding Angled Foregrip and Trigger Guard The Slingshot is an arm bracing system on the Kypos Scout SL which replaces the shoulder stock with a folding arm brace. The arm brace features a strap-free quick spring system that automatically fits the shooter’s arm like a wrist-rocket slingshot. The elimination of the shoulder stock places the Kypos Scout SL back into the pistol category, eliminating any NFA requirements. The Scout SL also replaces the vertical foregrip with an angled foregrip to keep it pistol legal. When and where one might choose to use a conversion kit like the Kypos Scout or Scout SL is a totally different question. A pistol enclosure like this one might be for you, or it might not. We're just here to let you know it exists so you can make your own informed decision. More information on the Kypos Scout and Kypos Scout SL can be found on the FAB Defense website.
