Federal Forges Ahead with New Look, New Name, New Products

Federal is releasing a slew of several new products in 2019, with a focus on additional projectile options from Barnes, Berger, Nosler, and others.

Federal introduced their Syntech Ammunition back in 2017, a special combination of cleaner-burning powders and polymer-encapsulated bullets. This year, Federal has added three new products to their Syntech lineup: Syntech Defense, Syntech PPC, and Syntech Training Match.

From Federal:

Syntech Defense provides dynamic terminal performance with a hollow-point bullet that separates into three segments and a deep-penetrating core on impact. The core penetrates 12 to 18 inches through bare ballistics gel and heavy clothing—a critical benchmark in self-defense situations and the best terminal performance of any round in its class. The segments create three secondary wound channels, each more than 6 inches deep, adding to the terminal effect. Syntech Defense is available in 9mm Luger 138-grain; 40 S&W 175-grain; and 45 Auto 205-grain.

Syntech PCC is built to meet the exhaustive demands of fast-pace Pistol Caliber Carbine competitions, with flawless function in carbine platforms. Velocity and accuracy are optimized for long gun barrel lengths, with a bullet profile that provides excellent accuracy and reliable feeding in a variety of carbine platforms. Syntech PCC is offered in 9mm Luger 130-grain.

Syntech Training Match, loads that offer the same velocity, trajectory and point of impact as equivalent Federal Premium Personal Defense HST and Tactical HST duty ammunition. Syntech Training Match is available in 9mm Luger 147-grain; 9mm Luger 124-grain; 40 S&W 180-grain; and 45 Auto 230-grain.

In 2019, Federal has several new offerings for shotgun lovers, whether hunting or shooting at the range. Federal is adding to their TSS (Tungsten Super Shot) lineup with the launch of Black Cloud TSS for waterfowlers and Heavyweight TSS blended loads for turkey hunters.

For those who love shooting clays, Federal has added Top Gun Sporting to the docket. Top Gun Sporting shotshells have several features such as:

• Loads designed specifically for sporting clays shooters
• High velocities and less felt recoil
• Hard pellets
• Consistent, reliable Federal® primer
• Eight-segment crimp
• Unique wad column produces consistent pattern

If shooting rifles is your thing, Federal has several new products for you as well. Federal's Trophy® Copper products have a copper, polymer-tipped bullet for added accuracy, penetration, and expansion. This year, they've added two new loads to this line: a 55-grain 223 Rem. and a 250-grain 338 Lapua Mag.

In 2018, Federal introduced the 224 Valkyrie, pushing the envelope of ballistic performance and capabilities. This year, they're pushing the boundaries even further by releasing several new load options for hunters and shooters. The 224 Valkyrie cartridge will now be available with the 80.5-grain Gold Medal® Berger® Hybrid, 60-grain Hornady® V-Max® and 78-grain Barnes® Triple-Shock® X. The company says these offerings will offer better ballistic performance, less recoil, and less wind drift and drop.

For predator and varmint hunters, 2019 brings Federal® Varmint & Predator. These come equipped with the V-Max bullet paired with Federal brass, primer, and propellant and are priced to sell. Offerings for Federal® Varmint & Predator include: 204 Ruger 32-grain V-Max, 22-250 Rem 40-grain V-Max, 223 Rem 40-grain V-Max, 223 Rem 53-grain V-Max, 6.5 Creedmoor 95-grain V-Max, and 308 Win 110-grain V-Max.

Weekend plinkers will love Federal's new BYOB Buckets and Bottles. These bulk packs are specifically designed to carry, store, and stack easily. The lids can be easily removed or kept on so that shooters can utilize the easy-pour feature. Moving forward, the company will not only have new packaging with a new logo, but also a new name, simply, Federal. “We are embarking on a new, comprehensive effort to revitalize the Federal name,” said Jason Vanderbrink, Federal president. “At the same time, we will also treat Federal Premium as it was always meant to be—an exclusive category of the best ammunition available.” Federal's branded apparel will also feature the new logo.
