Gear First Look: Griffin Armament SPRM Mounts Dave Merrill November 5, 2019 Join the Conversation At RECOIL, we review every product fairly and without bias. Learn More While Griffin Armament is mostly known for their silencers, they have released other products in recent years such as rifle furniture, sights, slings, and guns. But the release of optic mounts is probably something we should have expected sooner, as the brothers who own the business were both Army snipers. And they also like to test everything on machineguns. It's probably in the best barracks humor that they named the line “SPRM” for Superior Precision Rifle Modular Mounts, not to mention how the name plays both on Sphur and Geissele. Which makes sense, because that seems to be the market share that they are targeting; namely the precision rifle market. With an MSRP of $209, it sits well below both the Geissele and Sphur mounts. There are a handful of features that make the Griffin Armament SPRMs stand out, none probably more so than the fact that there are ten surfaces on each mount where an accessory such as an MRDS can be attached. They accomplished this using an asymmetric ring configuration, and both left and right-handers are supported. The sheer number of optics supported right from the outset is impressive as well. Check it out: Aimpoint ACRO, T1/T2, H1/H2, Comp M5, Sig Romeo, Vortex Spark, Trijicon RMR , SRO, Holosun HE507C HS407C, HS508C, Leupold Deltapoint, J Point, Optima, Dr Optic, Meopta, Insight microdot, Burris Fastfire, Vortex Venom, and Viper, CMORE STS, RTS, STS2, and Vortex razor. Picatinny RTO™ plates are also offered. Flat mount AIS™ products support a myriad of optics as well as Wilcox RAPTAR, Simrad, and Picatinny (STANAG 4694 “NATO Accessory Rail”). Griffin also didn't just release one mount, but a variety with a ton of options. There are 30mm, 34mm, and 35mm mounts available in standard or cantilever. The cantilever mounts have a 15MOA angle and are available in four different heights, and the standard SPRMs are available in three. There are currently fourteen different adapter plates, with more on the way. All told, there are more than 50 SKUs associated with the SPRM line. One feature some will miss is the lack of a quick-detach system. When it comes to precision optic mounts, the QD is more of a nice-to-have than a hard requirement. No need to dig through a manual for torque specs, as they're lasered right on the bottom of the mount itself. We talked to Griffin Armament about their production capabilities, and as part of the normal machining operation, each mount is tolerance tested down to two ten thousands of an inch. That is a level of precision that you were unlikely to see in many less-expensive mounts. The first thing we did was use a 1.93 height SPRM mount with a Vortex Razor 1-6x on a SCAR CQC. The mount is overkill here, but there is no kill quite like overkill. We have another mount that you'll soon see on a RECOIL exclusive rifle in an upcoming issue. As we get more rounds downrange with them we'll have more to report. As an aside, expect to see Griffin Armament precision scope rings in assorted sizes and heights sometime around SHOT Show 😉 In the meantime, here is the Griffin Armament video about the mount, and another demonstrating their return-to-zero testing.
