Foley – a Southeastern Guide Dog Service K9

Yesterday was National PTSD Awareness Day.  One of the greatest force multipliers in the fight against PTSD is the service dogs such as those trained by Southeastern Guide Dogs. Southeastern Guide Dogs works to help those who suffer from PTSD by providing “…specially trained service dogs to America’s heroes through its Paws for Patriots™ program. Handpicked for their confidence and calmness, these dogs help manage the symptoms of PTSD, enabling veterans to integrate back into life with their loved ones and community.

In this video you'll hear about Foley, a golden retriever/Labrador mix) who assists a former MWD handler overcome panic attacks, depression and associated issues.

Says Titus Herman, CEO of Southeastern Guide Dogs,

“These exceptional service dogs help heroes like Morgan find strength, freedom, independence, comfort and joy after a long, hard and often lonely road, restoring their sense of place and purpose after the perils of PTSD. They have served us. Now it’s our turn.”

There is no entry for Southeastern Guide Dogs on Charity Watch. However, on Charity Navigator they have this one; the Better Business Bureau has this one; Guidestar offers this one.
