SHOT Show 2018 From the Dungeon: StealthGearUSA Brandishes Scorpion AIWB Claw Design Industry News January 24, 2018 Join the Conversation At RECOIL, we review every product fairly and without bias. Learn More By Jacki Billings Nestled in the bowels of SHOT Show, pushed against the back wall of the dungeon-like basement of the Sands Expo center, sits a tiny booth housing StealthGearUSA. The holster maker’s booth is unassuming — blink and you’d almost miss them, but StealthGearUSA is worth a glance. Though the company has been around for a few years with its Ventcore and Kydex rigs, the latest and the stand-out holster from SGUSA has got to be the Scorpion AIWB. Available in just holster or holster and mag configuration, the kydex holster features the same Ventcore backing as the rest of the SGUSA lineup. Breathable and comfortable, the Ventcore seems easily toted throughout the day without placing uncomfortable pressure on the wearer’s abdomen. While the Ventcore adds some comfort, the real acknowledgment should go to the Scorpion’s claw design. Nothing new or necessarily revolutionary, the implementation of the claw on the AIWB makes SGUSA worth your stop on the SHOT Show tour. Integrated into the holster, the claw scoops out from the right side and, when placed inside the waistband, angles the muzzle of the gun forward and the grip back towards the body. This angle, though small, is enough to provide better concealment — especially on thinner gun owners with less real estate for concealment. Fair warning — the angled gun will definitely result in a case of gun dick (that is the condition in which the muzzle of the gun creates a bulge in the crotch region. Good for dudes, awkward for chicks.) Gun dick aside the construction of the Scorpion makes it a nice addition to a petite or thin gun owner’s holster collection. While chatting with the folks at SGUSA, we did confirm that the company is creating more models to ft more guns and already has a model out for the new Gen5 series Glocks. Available in several finishes/colors, MSRP on the Scorpion starts at $109. In addition to the Scorpion, SGUSA displayed new tweaks to its current holster lineup (namely, carbon fiber finish option and new colors on the horizon) as well as a brand new IWB style handcuff holster, priced at $64.95.
