Defense Go Train, Manassas: “Unthinkable”. Tactics and Concepts for the Gravest Extreme. Recoil Staff August 20, 2015 Join the Conversation At RECOIL, we review every product fairly and without bias. Making a purchase through one of our links may earn us a small commission, and helps support independent gun reviews. Learn More Here's something a little different for you. We often train with firearms, sometimes with knives and medical gear, but rarely do we train for the unlikely or unthinkable.Sometimes a particular topic doesn't even occur to us until it's too late. For instance, you may have worked on your draw stroke hundreds of time. You may dry fire constantly – have you worked on weapon retention skills? What if things go really bad and you can't deploy the weapon, or you don't have it on your person. Are prepared to escape zip ties if they're used against you? Have you thought through what you'll do if you're taken hostage? What if you're caught up in the madness of a terrorist bombing incident (Boston, MA) or an ongoing, multiple assailant terrorist event (Mumbai, India)? These are some of the things that will be covered by Greg Ellifritz of Active Response Training and William Aprill of Aprill Risk Consulting this October. This 2 day class will be held at Elite Shooting Sports in Manassas, VA (that's Prince William County, adjacent to I-66 and Prince William Parkway). Register here. Cost is $400. You'll be close enough to ride your kick scooter up to Manassas National Battlefield Park if you care to (or just borrow Greg's). Grab something to eat at the Yorktown. In fact, have a big plate of biscuits and gravy the morning before you start fighting Aprill and Gorillafritz. There's nothing that feels as good as rolling on the mat or doing defensive tactics on the lawn with a belly full of biscuits and gravy. This class is all about “worst case scenarios.” It covers all the topics that you haven’t been able to find in the other open-enrollment classes you have seen. The two day class covers the following subjects: – Hostage Survival Techniques- What to do in the event you are taken hostage, how to psychologically defeat the hostage taker, escape of common restraints: how to pick and shim handcuffs, how to break zip ties, and how to escape flex cuffs. – The Psychology of Violent Criminals and How They Choose Their Victims – Tactical First Aid for Gunshot wounds – Constructing an Effective Defense Paradigm– This presentation will review common mental and philosophical errors made by practitioners as they undertake preparation for effective defense against violent aggression. Practical pitfalls and limitations in thinking about lawful violence will also be reviewed in depth. – Armed Citizen Response to Terrorist Bombing Incidents – Weapon Retention and Disarming- This class will provide students with simple and effective techniques to defend a holstered firearm and disarm a criminal holding you at gunpoint. The class will be two days (Saturday and Sunday Jan 24-25, 2015) in Columbus, Ohio. It will primarily consist of fast paced lecture/discussion with some physical skills practice (weapon retention/disarming and escaping restraints). All abilities and skill levels welcome. Why should you know how to escape restraints? Check out this article by John Correia of Active Self Protection. Here's an article on the topic from ITS.
