People Grunts BBQ: a crowd funding project to smack your lips about Recoil Staff March 13, 2015 Join the Conversation At RECOIL, we review every product fairly and without bias. Learn More Grunts BBQ is a crowd-funding project we found on pro-gun, veteran owned Twistrate. After some creeping and reading up, we realized how much good these guys are doing (and developed an appetite). We’d like to share the word. Grunts BBQ small group is based out of Milwaukee Wisconsin and involves a group of veterans serving veterans (as in helping them, not in the Damon Knight Twilight Zone fashion) . This is how they say they came up with the idea to start the project: “Working long hours, holidays, weekends, being gone for days and months from home, we wanted to deliver a piece of home to those like us. More so, we wanted those who work harder, to have more. So, we decided to get a food truck.” Now this isn't an ordinary mobile chow hall (aka food truck) they want to build. According to Grunts BBQ, their idea of a food truck is a little different than the average (below you can see just one of the ideas they posted to Facebook). They want to incorporate their unique skills and training into the project (hence the crowd-funding). Although they don’t yet have a food truck, they continue to sell and distribute “specialized tactical tools”, using the profits to get closer to their goal. They also strive to “…serve kick ass chow at veteran-specific events [and] first responder events…” to help facilitate the peer support networks many former and current warfighters need. Grunts BBQ (who recently competed in the Oconomowoc Chil Grunt-Off) is not all about the good chow life, but they’re also all about helping their brothers and sisters in arms. To learn more about what they do, what they cook, or to support their crowd-funding goal you can visit the Twistrate site, the Grunts BBQ website, or their Facebook page. If you're in the area, consider having them cater your event. Not a barbecue fan? Their site includes several links to good organizations that also help veterans in need.
