Early this morning Harris Publications notified its own employees and industry partners that it will be ceasing operation.
In an email, company president Stanley Harris, cites “turmoil in the face of rapid ascendance of digital media, changing consumer content preferences, magazine wholesaler struggles and consolidation in the supply chain,” as reasons to shutter the magazine publishing business.
According to one employee, the notification was a surprise to the staff. They were told today that the publications would all close tomorrow, April 29, 2016.
According to another source, online properties Tactical-Life.com and PersonalDefenseWorld.com will stay online under new ownership. This is an evolving story and details of continuing website operations are unclear.
Harris Publications was founded in 1977 and published a number of tactical titles, such as Ballistic, Tactical Weapons, Guns and Weapons for Law Enforcement, Special Weapons for Military and Police, and Combat Handguns, in addition to other beauty, entertainment, automotive, and other lifestyle titles. All told, the company published more than 75 magazines.
