Though the equipment has changed a bit, much of the craftsmanship is still performed by hand and the quality remains consistent. The Utvær, a collaboration blade with bushcraft in mind, is officially launching at SHOT in just a couple weeks. Here's what they have to say about it: As the popularity of bushcraft and survival skills continues to grow, the demand for stronger field knives is at an all-time high. With this in mind, Helle turned to Jesper Voxnaes, a Danish knife designer with a reputation for crafting improbably durable knives. To ensure functionality and the traditional Helle craft was not compromised, the design team diligently field-tested prototypes throughout their homelands in Scandinavia. The Utvær utilizes a full tang construction. The burly 4-inch blade is made of a single 3mm layer of steel for exceptional durability, yet is thin enough to perform as a knife should when cutting or carving. Two rivets reinforce the curly birch wood handle for added stability and longevity. The extended metal pommel is meant for rougher tasks. The Scandinavian ground blade, genuine leather sheath, and natural curly birch wood handle assure Helle’s renowned rugged beauty. Specs are listed as the following: Weight: 160gr Blade material: Sandvik 12C27 Blade thickness: 3,0 mm Blade length: 102 mm Handle material: Curly birch and Vulcanfibre Sheath material: Genuine leather Sheath weight: 50gr MSRP: $239 We're going to be sure to check it out on the show floor (booth 3652).
