Guns Help out gun owners in Detroit David Reeder August 5, 2013 Join the Conversation At RECOIL, we review every product fairly and without bias. Learn More Rick Ector, who opined here on RECOILweb recently regarding Open Carry was on the NRA's “Cam & Company” today to discuss “Stand Your Ground” in Michigan — it's worth listening to (link below). For those of you in the greater Detroit area, or those who might be interested in helping Mr. Ector, be advised: he will be teaching a free shooting course to 100 women from the Detroit area. The class will be held Sunday, August 18th. It is an annual community service project that Ector (who runs Legally Armed In Detroit) performs to help women learn to defend themselves in a city that seems to grow more dangerous by the day. Ector is asking for help from anyone who is interested in pitching in ammunition or funds to buy ammunition, from regular pro-gun Joe and Jane to pro-gun philanthropist. Although he has secured a range and meeting room, he needs additional ammunition (as of last count he has had 1,000 rounds of 9mm FMJ donated thus far; half his minimum goal). Obviously time constraints, limited ammunition and the number of students will necessarily keep this training and familiarity to a bare minimum. If it makes one of those women more comfortable with a weapon, persuades a couple to exercise their Second Amendment rights or helps keep one of them from being assaulted and harmed then in my opinion it's worth the time and the cost. If you are interested in donating ammunition to this effort, Ector will be at the Biggby Coffee Shop in Southfield, 26185 Evergreen Road on August 10TH from noon to 16h00 (4pm). You can also send a financial donative via PayPal to info(at)detroitccw.com. Regarding the Stand Your Ground issue, apparently Michigan State Representative Harvey Santanna is . You can listen to Ector's input on that here. He would appreciate your help in this too. Says Ector, “Santanna is merely parroting what he has heard about the law from race-baiters Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. If he had bothered to look into the facts of the case, he would have known that Stand Your Ground was not even relevant. I want you to call because every time these enemies of freedom attack gun rights, it is our duty to push them and preserve our rights. His Lansing office number is 517.373.6990. Call until you get through. Be heard.” Follow Rick Ector on Facebook and check out some of his other civilian empowerment efforts.
