Learn More We'll end the Happy EntrepreNewYear series with a particularly fitting small business: Liberty Socks. The HMFIC isn't just an entrepreneur, he's a vetrepreneur (an Army combat veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan) and he supports a number of worthy charities. Liberty Socks, based in Alexandria, Virginia, describes themselves as a “…men's and women's accessories brand.” Their apparel is designed and made in the USA, and righteously so since their apparel depicts American history. As an example, these socks are called ‘The Thirteen.' They are a tribute to the original 13 states and are apart of the Liberty Socks 1776 Collection. LS says the chevrons with 13 symbolize the original 13 states and the 9 chevrons (which are visible from the front or rear) symbolize the 9 states required to ratify the constitution, thus approving the new federal government. These are ‘The Lincoln' socks, described as “Dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” The 13 elephants you see on the socks symbolize the original 13 states and the 50 stars represent America. The elephants face to the right when worn, symbolizing their position on the right side of the aisle and traditionally conservative political stance. Looking for something with donkeys instead of elephants? How about ‘The Jackson.' Jackson socks are a tribute to the first democratic POTUS, with 13 donkeys that symbolize the original 13 states and 50 stars (25 on each sock) representing America. We tried to start 2016 out right — I did my best to showcase worthy small American businesses all throughout the month of January. This is the last post in the series. Capitalism is part of the foundation upon which our great republic stands, and small business is a vital part of that. I hope you were able to join us in recognizing and acknowledging that truth, and that you'll continue supporting craftsmen and small businesses. Happy EntrepreNewYear! Old Glory. The 9 alternating red and white stripes symbolize the 9 states required to ratify the constitution, approving the federal government. I like the Old Glory socks best, though ‘The Thirteen' are okay too. As for the Lincolns and the Jacksons — they're no doubt well manufactured, I am holding out home Mr. Hogan eventually releases something for Libertarians. I'm not sure what it would have on it…the Liberty Bell and a porcupine? We'll have to see. Please note that portions of Liberty Socks sales directly support the East Harlem Tutorial Program, an organization that provide scholarships, K-12 college preparatory after-school programs and public charter schools in New York.
