Modern Mountain Hunter: a Modern Outfitters and Barrier Performance Collaboration

The intersection of rifles made for precision and rifles made for hunting may not be as large as you think. While a twenty pound rifle may be great from the bench, climbing a mountain with one is a different story altogether. Lightweight pencil barrels make for easier carriage, but you aren't going to win any long range matches with one. For many hunters, especially those in the eastern half of the United States, this isn't a huge issue; the required ranges are usually fairly short. For those in western states, with open plains and deep mountain valleys, more of a balance has to be struck. The latest contender in achieving this particular parity comes from a collaboration between Modern Outfitters and Barrier Performance Firearms.

The descriptively named Modern Mountain Hunter is the first of many new rifles and accessories designed by Stephen Barrier, of Surgeon Rifle fame. Though we don't yet have all of the specs, we're told the Modern Mountain Hunter has a controlled feed, fixed ejector action. The stainless barrel is paired with a hand-laid fiberglass stock and Timney trigger–with custom coatings available directly from Modern Outfitters.
