Palmetto State Armory never shies away from giving the people what they want, even if the people are sometimes wrong. Immediately on release of the JAKL-9, the crowd cried out for a tucked suppressor version. Why? Mostly vibes, but also because a tucked suppressor does provide a little more protection to the can and room on the rail for accessories. But let’s be honest, it was really just the vibes. Enter the JAKL-9 SD. ALL TUCKED UP The only thing that sets the JAKL-9 SD apart from the normal JAKL-9 is the extra handguard length that extends past the barrel, with a wider interior diameter designed to leave room for a suppressor. The JAKL-9 itself is a 6.5” barrel 9mm blowback PCC that uses AR-15 triggers and AR-V/AK-V/CZ Scorpion magazines. F5 tailhook “brace” keeps this legally a pistol. Just like the larger rifle-caliber JAKLs, the 9mm version has a reversible non-reciprocating charging handle and doesn’t require a buffer tube, allowing the stock or brace to fold flat. Beyond that, it has a standard AR-15 pattern grip, and the JAKL-9 SD comes with an extended flashhider to give a faux-suppressor look. Bad news: while the JAKL-15 in 5.56 and JAKL-10 in .308 both use a long-stroke gas piston, the JAKL-9 is simple blowback. The bolt is connected to a long rod connected to a charging handle; this is just to add mass. The bolt doesn’t lock up, and it isn’t delayed in any way other than the mass of the bolt and rod. RANGE REPORT From the start, the JAKL-9 didn’t really impress during testing. Mounting the JK PRO-KOR 9k Ti was easy using a Sovereign Development tri-lug face-mount, but while the JAKL-9 claims to have a 1.8” ID inside the tucked part of the handguard, and JK claims the PRO-KOR 9k is 1.72” on the OD, the suppressor rubbed on the inside of the handguard. Both the ID and OD measured correctly on my calipers, so the problem must lie with the barrel not being totally centered in the handguard. Not ideal, but also not a huge deal to me. While the suppressor rubbed a little, it doesn’t seem to be enough to really make a difference. On the range, the JAKL-9 SD shot fine. Groups were fist-sized at 50 yards, no malfunctions, and nothing really interesting to report. It’s a blowback PCC, there isn’t really a lot to go wrong. That’s all there is to say, so let’s talk about blowback. While blowback is simple to make and simple to get running well, it’s a violent recoil impulse at best. The JAKL-9 isn’t unpleasant to shoot, but it’s not smooth either. It feels like a big chunk of metal reciprocating and slamming into your shoulder with every pull of the trigger because that is exactly what it is. The mass of the bolt is enough to safely and reliably fire, but not enough to make the shooting experience pleasant. Being a huge fan of the JAKL-15 and JAKL-10, the JAKL-9 doesn’t live up to the name. Blowback PCCs in the year 2026 are, frankly, outdated. Even if you are insistent on making a blowback PCC, there are at least ways of making it much more pleasant to shoot without just adding mass. A blowback AR-9 with a KynShot buffer or Maxim Defense roller-delayed buffer makes a world of difference. Granted, both of those systems require a buffer tube, but surely, PSA could have come up with something better than just blowback? Add to that the fact that this isn’t an inexpensive PCC, clocking in at $1,099 on PSA’s website, and I can’t really see much reason to recommend the JAKL-9 beyond the fact that the JAKL-9 really does look pretty awesome. Visually, one of my favorite PCCs. But to shoot it, while not my least favorite since it did work every time the trigger was pulled, it’s not high on my go-to list of PCCs. The Military Armament Corp MAC 5 and Springfield Armory Kuna are both less expensive, roller-delayed, great suppressor hosts, and provide a much better shooting experience. Even PSA’s own AR-V is several hundred dollars cheaper, smoother shooting out of the box, and can be tuned to be very smooth with the addition of a KynSHOT or Maxim buffer. JK PRO-KOR 9K TI While the JAKL-9 failed to impress on any level, the JK Pro-Kor 9k Ti couldn’t have impressed me more. Designed for PCC and submachine guns, the Pro-Kor 9k ships with a Tri-Lug mount ready to mount on any standard Tri-Lug muzzle device. Ours was the Sovereign Development Tri-Lug, Face Mount, and it worked perfectly. Once locked in, the Pro-Kor 9k sounded awesome. Not “Hollywood quiet”, but pretty close when using subsonic ammo. The sound of the JAKL-9 blowback action was clearly the loudest part of shooting that day. Jk Armament PRO-KOR 9K $992.75 Guns.com $992.75 Prices accurate at time of publishing. Affiliate disclosure. Lightweight, compact, and sounding great, this little can did outstanding. Made of titanium and 3D printed using JK’s “internal flow-path geometry”, gas through the back of the suppressor was almost nonexistent compared with taking the suppressor off the JAKL-9. Because the JAKL-9 didn’t have a path for the gas to reach the shooter, it was hard to judge how well the Pro-Kor 9k performed in that respect, but that testing will be coming soon for the full JK Pro-Kor 9k Ti review. Even combined with my least-favorite PCC of 2026 (so far), the Pro-Kor 9k has been my favorite 9mm suppressor of 2026 (so far). LOOSE ROUNDS If the JAKL-9 scratches an itch for you and you have money to make it happen, it’s a PCC that worked every time it was asked. It looks great, the F5 brace feels great, and the double-stack mags of the AR-V/AK-V are rock solid. But unless this is the only PCC that will scratch that itch, there are a number of better options on the market. The JAKL-9 isn’t bad, but it leaves a lot to be desired, does nothing special, and fails to live up to the bar set by the JAKL-15 and JAKL-10. Maybe if PSA wasn’t charging a premium PCC price tag for an average-at-best PCC, it might be a different story. But at full MSRP, we’d pass.
