PHLster Summit Holster Review

At first glance, the outside-the-waistband PHLster Summit seems a bit out of character coming from a company that made its mark with appendix holsters. However, this odd lineage actually attracts us to the Summit. The holster has the usual array of holster adjustments — cant angle, ride height, and so on — but what sets the Summit apart is its use of wedges to fine-tune the grip angle, loop position, and grip rotation.

The holster arrives in a worrisome number of pieces, but PHLster’s concise video instructions make things very clear. Your two main points of adjustment are made using the included wedges and the placement of the holster’s wings on the inside or the outside of the holster body.

The wedges push or pull the butt of the gun away from the body like a claw does in an AIWB setup. Unlike the claw, though, the wedges provide several depth options depending on how high or low you place them.

The wings determine ride height by their vertical position; the trailing wing can run outside the holster body to pull the butt inward for maximum concealment, or inside the body for easier access to the grip. 

Setting the holster up takes some trial and error. But once it’s dialed in, the wedges can be cut to fit for a neat appearance. We left ours uncircumcised to show you where they are. We haven’t seen this level of grip adjustment on an OWB holster, so if you’re into 4 o’clock carry, we suggest checking out the PHLster Summit.
