Candice Horner proved that fact this past weekend at a match stacked with some of the best long range competitors in the hemisphere. Horner is part of the RECOIL editorial team, and she shoots a lot and even sometimes teaches. Frankly, she's our go-to for anything and everything precision; and if the title of this article tells you anything–there's a damned good reason for it. This past weekend at the 4th annual Accuracy International Long Range Classic, held at Altus Shooting Solutions, Horner walked away with the top lady award. The match consisted of 16 stages with a possible 168 points; Horner finished with 142 points. “This match was a test for me to see if I would be able to shoot again using my right eye,” said Horner. “After my Lasik procedure in December, my right eye has been blurry, so I’ve been worried it would affect my shooting.” Photo courtesy of Michael Cage The Accuracy International Long Range Classic is one of the first national-level matches to kick off the 2019 Precision Rifle Series season. This year, the match filled up with 145 shooters in eight minutes. Competitors dealt with bouts of rain and 15-20mph gusting winds over the course of two days. Let's just say that the conditions were a wee bit challenging. Horner attributes her success to others who have helped her grow as a shooter, being able to mentally manage difficult stages, and trusting her gear. When asked what advice she'd give a new shooter looking to dip their toe into long range competitions, she said, “Always shoot with better shooters because you can learn a lot from just observing how someone else shoots. And usually, those top shooters are eager to share their secrets to help you improve. The genuine kindness of the long range community is welcoming and wonderful.” Photo courtesy of Michael Cage Horner’s setup includes View this post on Instagram A post shared by Candice Horner (@candi323) on Feb 26, 2019 at 3:33pm PST Rifle: Surgeon Rifles 591 Short Action McMillan A-5 Stock Bartlein Barrel chambered in 6XC TriggerTech Diamond Trigger SureFire SOCOM Suppressor Nightforce ATACR 7-35×56 F1 scope with the Mil-C reticle MasterPiece Arms 34mm Scope Mount ZRODelta DLOC-S Bipod Other Gear Used: Kestrel 5700 Elite Armageddon Gear Suppressor Cover Armageddon Gear Fat OG Waxed Canvas Game Changer Armageddon Gear Fat Bag Really Right Stuff Tripod, Ballhead, and VYCE Armageddon Gear Competition Armband Match results can be found here: https://www.practiscore.com/results/html/140559b4-232f-46e6-b9cc-54c6128dbbfa Visit the Precision Rifle Series here: https://www.precisionrifleseries.com/ Visit Altus Shooting Solutions here: https://www.altusshooting.com/ Explore RECOILweb:Go Learn, Central Alabama: Shootist OneNew: TT's Rapid Repositionable Pouch System2018 IDF International Sniper CompetitionRMRcc Micro Optic, New From Trijicon NEXT STEP: Download Your Free Target Pack from RECOILFor years, RECOIL magazine has treated its readers to a full-size (sometimes full color!) shooting target tucked into each big issue.
