Outta the Closet: PK Design Lab FL2LE Light

From the brilliant mind of Paul Kim comes an equally brilliant flashlight design. The PK FL2 LE (Paul Kim Flash Light 2 Limited Edition) boasts a unique design packed full of cutting edge technology.

For the uninitiated, Kim served as Senior VP of Engineering at SureFire and was the genius behind a multitude of the company's cutting edge designs.

This was the first offering by Kim when he struck out on his own with his new company a few years ago, PK Design Lab, and we still find it to be a great everyday use light.

Kim's designs are known for being stylish while emitting pure function at the same time and he pulls no punches with the PK FL2 LE.

Constructed from Aerospace grade 6061 aluminum and Hard Anodized with a Milspec Type III black finish, the light uses a CREE XM-L2 LED to produce 600 to 650 lumens for over 90 minutes of continuous run time in high mode.

Running on the lower power setting gives off 40 lumens for close to 22 hours of continuous use.

This is a perfect sized 2-cell light powered by a pair of lithium CR123 batteries. A double set of O-rings protects the batteries from moisture.

The knurled body makes for a perfect hold when using many of the various hand held flashlight techniques when used in conjunction with a firearm: fist to cheek, FBI, Harries, Rogers or Ayoob.

Tactical design does not end with the machined knurling on the body. The crenellated strike bezel on the head makes for an excellent improvised self-defense weapon if needed.

For a tail cap he went with the popular clicky style. As we mentioned, there are two power mode settings and each of these can be momentarily activated or pushed in for constant on use.

We suspect the light could be weapon mounted if necessary but have not tried that option yet. The knurling may preclude pocket carry, so talk to your Kydex or nylon guy for an appropriate pouch or holster.

Rounding out this tactical light are the designer’s finishing touches. Paul Kim's signature is laser etched on the side of the bezel as a royal stamp of approval. Each flashlight will be identified individually by serial numbers 0001 to 1000.

Around the clicky tail cap is engraved: “In God we trust.”

PK Design Lab’s warranty covers factory defects, damage due to normal use or products damaged in shipping for 1 full year. If the flashlight is altered or used in an unreasonable manner in any way, it is considered beyond the scope of the warranty.
