Titusville, Florida, also known as Space City USA, is the gateway to the Kennedy Space Center and a hub for the science and aerospace industries. Not far from where NASA launches its space exploration rockets is another facility for the advancement of technological education, The Institute of Military Technology (IMT). IMT’s Titusville campus sits on an impressive 100,000-square-foot facility. IMT is home to a reference collection of military hardware that includes one of the largest privately owned collections of firearms in the United States. IMT’s aim is to collect and preserve all forms of technologically relevant military hardware with the intent of using its collection toward education.

Along with the second-largest private collection of military vehicles in the nation, IMT’s impressive firearmscollection is used as a working reference library for those who wish to studyand advance military technology. Weapons included in the collection range from Eugene Stoner’s first prototype AR-platform rifles to a World War II-era Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel (LCVP) Higgins boat. A walk through the Hall of U.S. Arms shows a display of uniforms dating back to the Revolutionary War, as well as the earliest Civil War-era Gatling guns. The Hall of Modern Arms includes modern weapons of technological merit from many different countries of origin. IMT’s collection is varied and exhaustively comprehensive.

Uniforms from different eras and service branches are on display in the Hall of U.S. Arms.

The institute was established to give the military technology sector of the United States a dedicated reference collection for the advancement of American-made arms. With small-arms technologies remaining basically stagnant over the last 50 years, we’ve seen no significant improvements. IMT would like nothing more than to assist in finding a new breakthrough. Its large collection of military vehicles is also available to help further U.S. military technology
