As we know them today, multi-tools came into their own during the late 1980s and have revolutionized the way we work. These relatively small, versatile tools are capable of much more than the traditional pocketknife. Many are equipped with basic tools such as a file, a screwdriver, a knife blade, and pliers. In recent years, more specialized multi-tools have appeared, with some even being dedicated to a particular firearm. Here, we'll take a look at a few that we find indispensable at the range or the worksite.
A collaborative project between CRKT and Crimson Trace Corp., the Picatinny includes adjustment hex tools to adjust Picatinny rail-mounted, CTC laser sights. It also includes a rounded-head pin that can be used to clear failure-to-eject jams, as well as for small pin removals. This multi-tool is best suited for users of Crimson Trace lasers and those looking for a very lightweight tool.
The Field Expedient Cleaning Tool was designed to help maintain and clean AR-15/M16/M4 variants. A nice feature is that every tool locks in place when in use. With indispensable tools to help keep your gun in the fight, this multi-tool also stows away to become a very compact unit when not in use.
