RECOIL Offers an Exclusive Sneak Peek at a Genre-Busting Graphic Novel
Jason Swarr has always broken barriers. First as a door-kicker for the U.S. Marine Corps and then as a ground-breaking artist whose photo illustrations shattered the standards of photography in the firearms industry. Now he’s at it again. His Arizona-based studio, Straight 8 Custom Photography, is about to bust through the limits of the traditional graphic novel with Red Bloods.
This series is a unique mixture of the comic-book format with an epic storyline and world-class composite photography to create a new medium of storytelling. The genesis for the project came when Swarr shared the premise with friend and project manager Fred Mastison, who quickly hit the keyboard and turned the idea into complete story. Then RECOIL’s editor managed to elbow his way in front of the camera to play a character in the story.
Here’s a little preview of the end result of this genre-busting collaboration. The first edition of Red Bloods will have made its debut at SHOT Show 2015 by the time you read this, and a second edition is already in the works. All signs point to this becoming a regular publication in the near future. For updates on the series, go to www.straight8photography.com.
