If the heart of a rifle is its barrel, then the trigger is the soul. We black rifle shooters like our soul Motown style with a break that makes you want to slap your mother…well, maybe not that extreme, but close. The problem with triggers is that most LPKs include a military grade trigger that can feel like a kickstart on a Harley. I you take your rifle to Bubba for a trigger job you run the risk of accidentally going full auto. Not that there's anything wrong with that (when you expect it) so we recommend using a quality drop in trigger pack like those offered by Rise Armament.
We tried out two of their trigger modules at SHOT: TheRA-535 Advanced Performance Trigger and the RA-140 Super Sporting Trigger.
The RA-535 Advanced Performance Trigger (APT) is a drop in single-stage trigger group with KNS Pins that gives you a 3.5 pound trigger. There is no over-travel and it resets faster than an El Chapo prison break.
MSRP is $259 for this one, which puts it in line with most other drop in match grade triggers of this quality.
Now you're probably thinking, “Meh, so what Searson, my brand X is better because….”
How about a drop in 3.5 pound trigger that retails for $129? Is brand X better than that?
Check out the RA-140 Super Sporting Trigger.
This trigger does not include the KNS pins, doesn't look as sexy as the APT and while it does have a quick reset its not as fast as the APT, either. It is just about perfect for the home builder who wants to upgrade on a budget.
Both triggers work with most 308 and 5.56 ARs on the market, unless you have some Fugazy build or one of those Billy Jeff show specials that “didn't quite make the final cut but you can have it now for $19.95.”
Rise provides a host of other accessories from barrels and comps to lowers and fully built rifles.

The NSSF SHOT Show (Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade Show) and Conference is an annual event held by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. Typically attended by thousands of people from all 50 states and over a hundred countries, it is (quite rightfully) described as the “…world's premier exposition of combined firearms, ammunition, law enforcement, cutlery, outdoor apparel, optics, and related products and services.
Imagine the Worlds' Fair, but packed with everything from mini-guns and every breed of body armor, bows and boots; from eye pro and ear pro to optics and ordnance, socks to swords…you get the idea. Interestingly (perhaps fortuitously, for some) SHOT 2016 overlaps the 2016 AVN Awards, which would provide us with article fodder of an entirely different nature if we thought anyone there might have good trigger awareness and muzzle discipline…
