Gear [SHOT 2017] Check out the Safariland VIEVU Holster-Camera System Joe Dawson January 24, 2017 Join the Conversation With the increased media coverage of hostility against our law enforcement officers and officer involved shootings, departments across the country are looking heavily into body cameras. This allows the department a way to hold officers and citizens accountable for their conduct as well as provide evidence in the case of any officer involved shooting. While they have proven useful some of the largest draw backs have been price, battery life, data storage, and possible privacy concerns with full time recording. Safariland has teamed with with VIEVU to create the world’s first holster and camera auto-activation system to address many of these problems. SHOT Show 2017: Safariland VIEVU Holster-Camera System The system is based around a VIEVU LE4 Body Worn Camera, which is automatically activated when the officer draws his or her weapon from a Safariland 7TS duty holster. Officers can conduct business as usual, without having to worry about activation of a body camera in the middle of a tense situation. The system’s camera resides in a state almost neutral recording at all times, only temporarily keeping the previous 30 seconds in memory. Upon drawing of the weapon, the camera’s pre-record function captures and records the previous 30 seconds of video prior to the drawing of the weapon and remains actively recording until the officer manually turns it off. The camera can also be manually activated simply by pulling down on the activation panel on the front of the camera for any periods of time the officer may think recording is necessary. From Safariland: Features Body Worn Camera Auto-activation System Enabled with the Camera Auto-activation System the VIEVU LE4 Body Worn Camera automatically turns on once the officer’s firearm is drawn from its Safariland 7TSTM duty holster. • Once activated, the camera can be configured to include the last 30 seconds of buffered footage prior to activation and continues to record until manually turned off. • An extremely rugged, reliable and water- resistant technical solution with the technology safely encased in the Safariland 7TS holster. • Simple wired connection to VIEVU LE4 camera: no pairing and no Bluetooth connection failures, minimizing user error • LED lights indicate sensor activation signal and battery life • 30-day battery life with replaceable batteries • Available in three models of Safariland 7TS Series retention duty holsters 7TSTM Retention Level Duty Holster Series The Safariland 7TS Series holster line offers excellent durability and structural integrity with its proprietary SafariSevenTM nylon blend. • ALS (Automatic Locking System) secures a weapon once holstered; simple straight up draw once release is deactivated • ALS combines with the SLS (Self Locking System) Rotating hood for Level III Retention • SafariSeven proprietary DuPontTM nylon blend/non-abrasive to the firearm’s finish that is extremely rugged and protective • The interior has risers to create airspace enabling dirt or moisture to quickly clear contact • SafariSeven offers extremely high heat and cold tolerances; it is structurally sound from 300° F to -50° F • Battery tube powers the system that activates the camera, and an LED light at the top of the battery tube lets the officer know the unit is functioning and batteries are charged • Models offered are: 7280 / 7285 – 7TS SLS Mid-Ride & Low Ride Level II RetentionTM Duty Holsters 7360 / 7365 – 7TS ALS Mid-Ride & Low Ride Level III RetentionTM Duty Holsters 7390 / 7395 – 7TS ALS Mid-Ride & Low Ride Level I RetentionTM Duty Holsters VIEVU LE4 Body Worn Camera The LE4′s lens allows for the most accurate forensic analysis, distance measurements, crime scene reconstruction, and ensures maximum evidentiary value when you need it most. • 95-degree field of view providing the most accurate field of view on the market • A lens that provides authoritative forensic analysis, distance measurements, crime scene reconstruction, and ensure maximum evidentiary value • Battery capacity for a full shift of continuous recording • Pre and post event recording capable • 1080, 720 and widescreen 848 x 480 video resolution • Extremely durable billet aluminum VIEVU Solution – Evidence Management Software The next generation of fully hosted evidence management system built on the Microsoft Azure Government Cloud. • Cloud Hosted Evidence Management: next generation fully-hosted cloud evidence management system built on the Microsoft Azure Government Cloud • The first enterprise cloud to directly support CJIS compliance • Securely upload videos and documents directly from camera, computer or smartphone eliminating the hassle and maintenance of an on-site storage solution • Accessed from any modern web browser with optional IP restriction feature to control access • Secure and scalable, supporting multiple forms of encryption and authentication. • Offers CAD RMS and Active Directory integration • Unlimited prosecutor and agency user accounts included • Upload and store all file types including videos, pictures and documents in one secure location • Smartphone App: access the VIEVU Solution directly from the field, available on major mobile platforms • Best in class integrated Automatic Video Redaction For more information please visit their website here/ This has been a special SHOT Show installment of Industry News. The NSSF SHOT Show (Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade Show) and Conference is an annual event held by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. Typically attended by thousands of people from all 50 states and over a hundred countries, it is (quite rightfully) described as the “…world's premier exposition of combined firearms, ammunition, law enforcement, cutlery, outdoor apparel, optics, and related products and services. Imagine the Worlds' Fair, but packed with everything from mini-guns and every breed of body armor, bows and boots; from eye pro and ear pro to optics and ordnance, socks to swords…you get the idea. If you'd like to see a sampling of the companies who will be showing at this year's SHOT, there's a live map right here, though it doesn't reflect the organizations set up elsewhere, in hotel suites, etc View imagery from our coverage of last year's SHOT Show here; 2015's is right here.
