Saturday Night Blade Pr0n: 3 Rivers Blades

3 Rivers Blades is a vetrepreneur-run custom knife shop whose proprietor is a former Marine named John Kaiser. I have not yet met him, nor do I know much about him, but he sounds like a New Yorker, his YouTube videos come highly recommended and he quotes John Muir. What's not to like about that?

What you see above is his Mosquito next to his Talon. What you see below is The Bushman, apparently from a short run (and my personal favorite of what I've seen from 3 River Blades so far). It's crafted from 195 steel, has a blade length of 5 in. (with a saber grind), is gun blued with African ebony wood scales and a Kydex sheath. The first 4 made were wood; the next ones will be (or possibly already are) made with green Micarta scales — if you like this, make sure you check out the video below.

This big bastard is the “One Seven.” Its overall length is 17.5 in. with a full foot of blade. It's 1/4 in. thick, D2 steel and a flat grind, with a Micarta handle. Asked if he'd done the full grind post heat-treatment Kraut answered,

“I pre-ground the bevels to about 3/16 in. or .180. You need to leave enough steel on it so it won't warp on heat treatment. The longer the blade the more likely to warp the thicker you need to keep it. However the more grinding you will need to do after. D2 is a great steel but it tuff to grind.”

This next series is The Huntsman. Its' D2 steel with tan Mircarta scales, a coy Kydex scabbard, MOLLE LOK and fire steel (the fire steel is an optional accessory you can choose when you order. Says 3 Rivers Blades, “The Fire Steel Sheath Accessory  will be made from kydex and have lanyard attached to the fires steel or set up in a pressure pocket to keep it secure.”

This is a Huntsman in 1095 with stainless steel pins and black canvas scales.

Here's a look at your bladesmith. In this picture he is apparently relaxing at Glacier National Park. Check him out online here, on Instagram here (@3riverblades), on Pinterest here and on Facebook here. You're also gonna want to watch his videos on his YouTube channel. Trust me it'll be worth your time.
