Guns [SHOT 2017] Unconventionally Suppressed Guns from Gemtech Dave Merrill January 25, 2017 Join the Conversation At RECOIL, we review every product fairly and without bias. Learn More Gemtech has always had a flavor for putting together some eccentric guns — take their .300blk select-fire Mk48, for example. This year at SHOT Shot they had a whole bevy of bizarre options on display, to include a silenced Mosin Nagant rifle, a suppressed Nagant Revovler, and a couple more. And it's those couple more that caught our attention the most. Read on, we'll explain. SHOT Show 2017: Unconventionally Suppressed Guns from Gemtech How about a Hill & Mac Gunworks STG chambered in .300blk with a can on the end? Let us be the first to tell you, this gun is heavier than it looks. It's like something from a really good (or really bad) time travel or alternate history movie. The ‘cool factor' was off the charts though. Another weapon that caught the eye was an 80s action – 90s gangster favorite: the lovable (and largely unreliable) TEC-9. Equipped with a Gemtech can on the end, it somehow made it even more 80s-like than ever before. It's probably a given that in order to shoot it you need to be blasting a Dokken album and sporting acid-washed jeans. Though we didn't get to shoot these creations today–next time we're anywhere near Oregon we definitely will. More soon. This has been a special SHOT Show installment of Industry News. It is not a review nor an endorsement. What is the NSSF SHOT Show? The NSSF SHOT Show (Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade Show) and Conference is an annual event held by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. Typically attended by thousands of people from all 50 states and over a hundred countries, it is (quite rightfully) described as the “…world's premier exposition of combined firearms, ammunition, law enforcement, cutlery, outdoor apparel, optics, and related products and services. Imagine the Worlds' Fair, but packed with everything from mini-guns and every breed of body armor, bows and boots; from eye pro and ear pro to optics and ordnance, socks to swords…you get the idea. If you'd like to see a sampling of the companies who will be showing at this year's SHOT, there's a live map right here, though it doesn't reflect the organizations set up elsewhere, in hotel suites, etc View imagery from our coverage of last year's SHOT Show here; 2015's is right here.
