While most of the gun groupies will flock to see the tan, oh sorry Coyote, Glocks I intend to step on over to CZ-USA for some interesting new products. Flaunting guns of all varieties on Instagram leading up to SHOT show, CZ certainly captured my attention with a few of its oddities — chiefly, the suppressed and shortened goods.
The gun maker announced in December that a new reflexed suppressed Scorpion was imminent and I’ve had my eye on that NFA-listed Scorpion since. The 9.6-pound Scorpion utilizes a S2 Ti Reflex can situated underneath the HB Industries handguard. CZ says the integrated suppressor quietens the boom without adding too much extra bulk to the overall system.Of course, I’m curious as to just what “too much bulk” really looks like, especially in the hands of a petite shooter like myself. CZ documented the suppressed Scorpion’s 130dB using 147 grain defensive ammunition on the pages of social media. Will they let me take it for a test run in the halls of the Sands Expo Center? Doubt it but I am excited to tinker with the carbine in booth and see just how badass I look wielding the stainless steel and titanium model. (I need a new Instagram photo anyway.)
Second to the suppressed Scorpion but still keeping it in the family, the short-barreled Scorpion — promised by CZ on the pages of Instagram— will be my next layover in the booth. The Shorty Scorpion houses a 4-inch barrel with HB Industries Short Handguard. Coming to 16-inches collapsed, the carbine tosses on a confounding addition to its front end — a NoOsprey Faux Suppressor. In something I imagine was the works of someone needing to look “tacticool” without dropping $200 on a BATFE stamp, I can’t wait to check out the SBR with faux suppressor (if only I had faux fur to sport with it).
Though CZ’s suppressed and shortened goods are wildly more entertaining than pistols, we can’t completely ignore the handheld pew pews. Though CZ has had the P07 and P09 in rotation for awhile, the company announced that the series would be going green, showcasing an OD Green style on, you guessed, their favorite new marketing platform Instagram. While the mechanics and internals are largely the same as the standard black versions, the OD Green variants will see the addition of factory installed 3-dot tritium night sights.
Nabbing pricing and drop dates for all the new products will be one of my primary goals since CZ has largely kept those details under wraps. Stay tuned to RECOIL as we visit CZ next week at SHOT and bring you all the suppressed, shortened and colored guns lining their booth.
