SHOT Show Range Day 2024: A Few Highlights

SHOT Show Range Day is always a mess, but this year was a bit more of a struggle than years past. While normally media gets exclusive access to the first half of range day, this year it was open to all from the start due to bad weather.

Still, we braved the cold, the rain, and the mud to find a few gems.

RADIAN P365 AFTERBURNER + RAMJET

Already released for the Glock 19 and coming soon for the Glock 17, Radian was showing off their latest version of the Afterburner and Ramjet for the SIG Sauer P365. As someone who is a big fan of comps on micro-pistols, this pleases me.

Shooting the Radian touched guns was good and the gun with the comp shot notably better than without, as you should expect. But if the comp and barrel will live up to the price tag is something we’ll have to test down the road.

Also new from Radian was a back strap and mag well for the P365. While it felt good in my hands, it is also something that will require a closer look.

New parts for an already popular platform is never a bad thing!

6 MAX From Precision Ballistics

If you haven’t heard of this cartridge, that wouldn’t be surprising. New to the market, the 6 MAX sets out to do some big things with a small case.

Using a standard AR-15 bolt, magazines, upper, lower, and basically everything except the barrel — 6 MAX is designed to get the absolute most out of the AR-15 that you can get.

With 35gr water capacity, the 6 MAX has a lot of room for bullets and powder. This translates to a huge amount of FPS even out of surprisingly short barrels.

A good rule of thumb is to never trust the FPS numbers on a box of ammo, but rare is a company that shows up to range day with a chrono on the line to prove their claims.

Set up at the Sons of Liberty Gun Works bay with a Garmin Xero chrono, we shot 55gr 6 MAX out of an SOLGW 10.5” rifle at 2974 FPS. Impressive.

I don’t know where this cartridge is going, but it will be interesting to keep an eye on it.

Hammerli Force B1

Another name you might not have heard of lately, but is actually a sister-brand of Walther’s. Hammerli Force B1 is an interesting bolt action .22 LR rifle with interchangeable barrels that quick change almost instantly. Soon to be available in .22 LR with .22 Mag and .17 HMR coming down the road, the B1 uses a competition-style bolt to make cycling the rifle fast, smooth, and easy.

Using standard Ruger 10/22 mags and compatible with 10/22 trigger packs, the Hammerli Force B1 is pretty cool!
