The GAT – Glass Assault Tool

Earlier in the year XS Sight Systems sent one of their products, the Glass Assault Tool (GAT), to a training class hosted in New Jersey. There the GAT was used by Army, FBI, DEA, and local law enforcement agency students in the ‘vehicle glass breaching’ segment of the course. It was also used during regular firearms training. Apparently, if comments by a few of the students are any judge, the GAT made a good impression.

This simple metal firearm attachment was designed by US Army Master Sgt. Paul Howe (Ret) of CSAT (Combat Shooting And Tactics). The tool was manufactured to upgrade pistol mounted light systems for Surefire X200/X300, X300 Ultra, Streamlight TLR products (the WL-GAT), and Milspec Flash Hiders (the AR-GAT). Says Howe,

“The GAT will allow the operator to rapidly (and effortlessly) breach glass and gain access to high-risk environments, while keeping both hands on their primary weapon platform with no effect to their weapon's zero or combat readiness”.

The class referred to earlier on was the 4th of the Lights, Sights, Lasers 2014 US Tour. Lights, Sights and Lasers is an accredited training opportunity provided to firearms instructors and tactical officers as well as law enforcement and military professionals assigned to specialty details/assignments. Students attend these classes (each hosted by a local PD) as guests, free of charge. There are 3 tour dates left:

• September 15 and 16: Richland PD in Richland, WA

• October 16 and 17: San Antonio PD in San Antonio, TX

• October 20 and 21: Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, AZ
