Gear The MOHOC Helmet Cam at Warrior Expo West Dave Merrill April 21, 2017 Join the Conversation Today we have more pint size action cameras than ever before, though likely the GoPro is still King of the Hill in terms of market share. MOHOC (pronounced “Mohawk”) set out to develop a ruggedized camera that was intuitive to use–and most importantly was easy to mount on helmets. At Warrior Expo West put on by ADS Inc we got to check one out for ourselves. The controls of the MOHOC features three settings and one button. Yes, this is fairly easy to use. Toggle to the right and the MOHOC automatically starts recording within 5 seconds. Press the button on the back while recording or simply while the unit is on and a 12MP still photo will be taken. In lieu of strong tactical feedback, the entire unit vibrates as it starts recording, turns off, or takes a photo. Even through heavy gloves you should be able to feel this one. There's a bezel around the front lens which you can use to align the camera, regardless of the mounted angle. It also acts as a sacrificial barrier, and can be changed for ~$30 if broken. Though the primary mounting location was intended to be the top of a helmet, the MOHOC can be side-mounted, installed on a tripod, thrown on a rifle, or even a shoulder strap. Both visual and IR MOHOCs are available–though for the IR models to get the best image you'll need something like a Surefire Vampire light to be used in conjunction with it.
