Guns The Nomad 9 G19 Lower Chad McBroom January 22, 2019 Nomad Defense made their SHOT Show debut last year with their Nomad 9, a G19 frame that was still in the pre-production concept phase. Nomad has returned with what is no longer a concept, but a reality. After months of testing and re-engineering, the Nomad 9 is now available to the public. In their quest to design a pistol platform that addresses many of the shortcomings found in production handguns, Nomad developed an aftermarket frame that offers many enhancements that bring the G19 to the next level. Nomad 9 Stripped Frame The Nomad 9 features a rock-grip texture on the gripping portions of the frame, forward thumb ledges for better control, a contoured grip for added comfort, an enlarged trigger guard for optimized use with gloves, a mag-release cutout, an extended beavertail, interchangeable backstraps for custom fitting, a Mil-STD 1913 accessory rail, a flared mag well for faster reloads, a slide stop guard, and a single-pin locking block (Gen5) layout. All this comes in a proprietary blended polymer package that ensures enhanced rigidity and high impact strength. Custom Build on the Nomad 9 Frame The Nomad 9 is sold as a stripped frame and is compatible with factory or aftermarket Glock 19 Gen4 parts (the Gen5 locking block being the exception). The frame comes with three backstraps, a trigger housing retention pin, and a backstrap retention pin. The Nomad 9 can be purchased through Rainier Arms for $200, but since it is a functional lower, buyers will need to complete the transfer through an FFL dealer. Nomad Defense also revealed some additional products that are still in the pre-production phase. The new Nomad 9 magwell flare is a machined steel component, making it heavier and more durable than the aluminum magwells that dominate the add-on market. There are two styles that will be available, a smaller one tailored for concealed carry, and a larger one geared toward competitive applications. Each version will come in three different sizes to fit each of the three Nomad 9 backstrap options. Nomad Defense Magwell Flare Nomad also has their own spin on a Glock takedown tool in the works. Molded in a high-strength, black nylon material, this new tool functions as a pin punch for weapon disassembly, a wrench for tightening red-dot screws, and a bottle opener for post-maintenance refreshments. The tool can be conveniently attached to a keyring so it’s always handy.
