Trek’s Trek: Do you even Liberty?

Trek's Trek is now over halfway complete. Erik Utrecht set out from Flat Rock, MI (Brian Terry's hometown) enroute to Bisbee, AZ, for the Border Patrol station named in Terry's honor. So far he's ridden over 1,200 miles.

On a bicycle. By himself.

Article 15 Clothing and Breach-Bang-Clear are donating all proceeds from the ‘Do you even Liberty?‘ shirt sold during the month of September to the Brian Terry Foundation on behalf of Trek's Trek – that means there just about a day left to buy one and support the cause! The t-shirt, which features George Washington on the front with an M4, was designed to honor the first President of the United States because,

“He was a legit American badass. A storied soldier and accomplished soldier, this guy defeated the most proficient, most professional officer corps in the world with comms that moved at the speed of a courier on horseback. He whipped them despite inferior numbers and inadequate firepower, often leading from the front and demonstrated incredible tactical and strategic acumen while campaigning in some of the worst weather on record. Presided over the drafting of the Constitution, warned everyone to beware of political parties, was unequivocally awesome – if his balls had been any bigger he'd have had to pay property tax on them.”

The purpose of Trek's Trek is awareness of (and funds for) the Brian Terry Foundation. At the risk of sounding disingenuous, it's a noble cause. Named for the murdered Border Patrol Agent, the Foundation works to keep everyone aware of conditions along the border even as it provides support to the families of Border Patrol Agents injured or killed in the line of duty. It had to do just that a few days ago, sadly, with the death of USBP Agent and former Marine Tyler Robledo near Carrizo Springs, TX.

Do you even Liberty

This ride is unsupported. He's riding without any vehicles following or any more of a safety net than what he can carry (we'll go over the gear he used in the future, there have been some hard lessons learned). It is legitimate. USBP personnel and Terry's family are in frequent communication with him. He'll ride a little over 2,000 miles in 25 days. He was scheduled for 5 rest days, but so far some equipment issues and issues encountered on the trail have prevented him from actually using one. Trek is passionate about making people aware of the story – Brian Terry was killed in the line of duty with a weapon provided to criminals by Operation Fast and Furious. To date no one has been held accountable for that.

Trek was crossing into Kansas from Missouri (after ascending nearly 3,000 ft.) when he got the word of Eric Holder's resignation.

“As I was combating the hills and wind of Kansas, I was notified of Eric Holder's impending departure as this nation's AG. How funny it is timed around the release of documents regarding OPERATION: FAST AND FURIOUS that he has been personally been stonewalling from the American public and the Terry family. I, like many, look forward to seeing what information will be released soon.”

If you're interested, read the chronicle of his travels here. He posts daily updates and pictures. Setting aside the stupendous task he's undertaken and the somber nature of the goal, the imagery and commentary makes Trek's Trek worth following by itself. You're going to see some compelling Americana and hear about interesting people. Do you even Liberty3Buy a Liberty shirt here from Article 15 Clothing to support the Trek.
