Notes: Adam Boyce of Spartan Mode was an assaulter and sniper for a special response team before becoming a defensive tactics teacher and certified instructor of Martial Blade Concepts (the system founded by CONCEALMENT contributor Michael Janich). Boyce and TOPS Knives recently teamed up to produce the Spartan Mode Agoge 2 (“agoge” references the rigorous training of young males in ancient Sparta). It features an ergonomic groove on the blade’s spine, ideal for the thumb-supported grip preferred by Martial Blade Concepts and most Filipino martial arts. Combine this with the Wharncliffe blade profile, and you have a tool that’s highly effective at stabbing, slashing, and draw cuts. The Agoge 2 features Micarta handle scales, a Kydex sheath with Ulticlip, and a 4-inch blade made from 1095 carbon steel. Made in the USA.

Notes: We gotta admit, we did a spit take when we saw the $120 price tag. But then we got hands-on with the Ti EDC Wrench and realized its worth. At less than 4 inches long and only 2.4 ounces, this handy device made of titanium lets you carry 25 different wrench sizes in your pocket. Based on a vintage spanner from Sweden, this little guy gives you maximum torqueing versatility thanks to its one-handed threaded design, similar to a crescent wrench. Plus, it comes with a deep-carry pocket clip for added portability. Oh, and because of its titanium construction, the Ti EDC Wrench makes for a solid improvised self-defense weapon.

The trays are a bit smaller than a sheet of paper, about a 1/4-inch deep, and subdivided into two areas. The smaller is perfect for smartphones or other small items. Pile other stuff — wallet, watch, keys, knife, mini liquor bottles, whatever you like — in the larger area. Made of Boltaron (which surprisingly isn’t a robot that transforms into a small Chevy), the dump trays are available in a variety of appealing, patriotic, and humorous designs.

Notes: As EDC gear flourishes, so too have clever new wallet designs using new materials and ideas to replace the tired, bulging billfold. There’s a leather version, but the Stealth Razor wallet is the one that found a home in our pocket, as it’s crazy thin. The Razor is made of material similar to the polyethylene used in body armor, so it’s light and strong. There are slots on either side, designed to hold up to four cards each, and a bungee loop in the crease to retain cash. The cards maintain the wallet’s shape, and no bulky reinforcement is needed, because the material is so strong. Empty, the Razor is less than a millimeter thick. Stuffed with a typical load out of eight cards, and a little cash bills, it’s still only 8mm thick when folded. Oh, it blocks RFID signals too.

Breakthrough Clean All-In-One CLP

Notes: Cleaner, lubricant, and protectant is one of the cornerstones of firearm maintenance, not because it’s the most effective in any one of those regards, but because it’s easy and efficient. Breakthrough Clean’s new CLP formulation appeals to the one-and-done crowd as a painless way to keep guns running between deep cleaning sessions. Spraying it on, the stuff is thin and gets in all the nooks and crannies. We wiped down the major parts of an AR and a pistol with it, and it did the job, cleaning light carbon fouling and leaving a thin protective film behind. We haven’t used the product long enough to know how effective it is, but out of the gate, it doesn’t smell much, hasn’t attacked the finishes on our guns, and we’re fans of the 16-ounce bottle’s locking trigger.

Viktos Kadre 2 Short

Notes: We all love the utility of cargo shorts, but they’re about as worn out as popped collars. The Kadre short gives us the utility we want without the khaki bagginess of the ’90s. These lightweight, polyester stretch shorts have locking zippers on all six pockets to keep things secure. Slash pockets on both sides hold a flashlight or a pistol mag, while the right side has a second slash pocket to keep a folding knife handy. The inner thigh features laser-cut venting, and all the pockets are mesh to help keep things cool. And the waist is padded for comfort when wearing a larger, duty-style belt, which you can do thanks to the oversize belt loops. Keep everything you need pocketed and ready without looking like you’re hitting the mall with Chad.
