In a memo dated today, Walmart CEO, Doug McMillon, issued a public statement outlining his policy changes after shootings that affected stores in El Paso, Texas, and Southaven, Mississippi. Remember when Walmart stopped selling AR15s and then increased the buying age to 21 for firearms? Well, McMillon's most recent memo shows how the company plans to further enforce its own gun control.

Key Changes to Walmart Firearms Policies:

  • Walmart will sell the current inventory and discontinue sales of “short-barrel rifle ammunition such as the .223 caliber and 5.56 caliber that, while commonly used in some hunting rifles, can also be used in large capacity clips on military-style weapons;”
  • The company will sell off the remaining in-stock handgun ammo and discontinue all sales of pistol ammunition;
  • To completely cease all sales of handguns, Walmart will no longer sell pistols in Alaska; and
  • Walmart and its sister company, Sam's Club, “respectfully request” that customers no longer open carry in stores even in states where it's permitted. By “request,” they mean it's the new policy.

After going through key points of the company changes, McMillon said, “We do not sell military-style rifles, and we believe the reauthorization of the Assault Weapons ban should be debated to determine its effectiveness,” he then said, “Today, I’m sending letters to the White House and the Congressional leadership that call for action on these common sense measures.”

In his conclusion, McMillon attempts to attest to Walmart's passion towards “responsible hunters and sportsmen,” and tries to seem relatable to gun enthusiasts when he affirmed that his “family raised bird dogs” and by saying, “I'm a gun owner myself.”

Add another turncoat to the list.
